How You Can Help
HOSPICE OF THE VALLEYS
is currently seeking caring volunteers to work with terminally ill patients and
their families. We are also looking for volunteers who would like to help with
patient care, bereavement support, office duties, Special Projects and Events,
and 'Memory Bears' and 'Memory Hearts'.
Patient Care
Patient care volunteers complete a 16-18 hour intensive training program over a
two-week period. They commit three to four hours a week to hospice patients and
their families. They offer support and listen with empathy. They become a
companion to patient and family members, run errands and sit with the patient
while caregivers take a much needed break.
Bereavement
Bereavement volunteers offer support through mailings and telephone calls on a
regular basis to those who have lost a loved one on hospice care. They also
assist Bereavement Counselors with support groups, including those for grieving
children.
Office Work
Office volunteers serve the program by providing assistance with office duties
such as filing, copying, or assembling patient information packets.
Special Projects
Special Project volunteers offer time with various Fund Raising events, blood
pressure clinics, and various mailings.
Memory Bears and Hearts
The Memory Bear is available to HOSPICE OF THE VALLEYS' families of the patients
who we have had the pleasure to serve. The Memory Bear is made from an article
of clothing which may have been one of the patients favorites or one of the
families favorites of the patients. ie: a favorite print, blouse, shirt,
pajamas, etc. The bears come lovingly wrapped in a beautiful crocheted or
knitted blanket. If a bear is not what a family member desires, a small heart
pillow is also available.
Transitions
Volunteers play an important role in fulfilling the mission of Transitions. After
successfully completing an intensive training program, Transitions Vounteers
provide companionship, assistance with shopping and errands, and transportation
to appointments.
Training
Gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the hospice philosophy and
concept of care. Hospice always has the need for volunteers in patient care,
bereavement, office work and fund raising. The entire community is invited to
attend to gain knowledge about hospice services without making a commitment to
volunteer.
We ask only $35.00 if you would like Continuing Education Credits.
