Hospice of the Valleys Teen Scholarship Award

On Friday, august 5, 2011, Katie Alfaro, teen volunteer for Hospice of the Valleys, was honored with the annual HOV Teen Scholarship Award. Katie has volunteered for HOV since November 2010 and has completed over 57 hours of service on behalf of those in our community in the final stages of life.

Katie was recognized for her extraordinary leadership and dedication to HOV patients and their families. All teen volunteers with a minimum of 50 or more volunteer hours were encouraged to apply for this scholarship by writing an essay to explain how volunteering for HOV has impacted their lives.

At the breakfast in her honor, Katie shared her essay with family, staff and board members who were clearly taken with emotion as she read aloud.
