Why We Raise Funds
Our Mission: We foster reverence for life, relief of suffering, and compassion in loss for the terminally ill residents and their families of Southwest Riverside communities.
As the only non-profit hospice headquartered in the Murrieta/Temecula area, Hospice of the Valleys carries out this important mission by caring for anyone in our service area who is hospice eligible, regardless of the patient's ability to pay or insurance status. Community support helps us provide care in the following ways:
- Patient Care
While Medicare, MediCal and private insurance policies reimburse us for the clinical care Hospice of the Valleys provides, we often care for uninsured and underinsured patients. In 2008, we provided approximately $500,000 in unreimbursed care.
- Hospice of the Valleys Grief Support Services
Medicare's Conditions of Participation require that a hospice employ a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to oversee and provide limited bereavement services. Because Hospice of the Valleys offers so much more grief support than what is required by Medicare, we employ additional counselors to provide these services. Hospice of the Valleys Grief Support Services offers counseling sessions, support groups, two annual day-camps for grieving children, holiday grief seminars, memorial services and more. These services are offered free of charge to anyone whose loved one was served by Hospice of the Valleys.
- New Program Development
Hospice of the Valleys seeks to change and grow in order to keep pace with the community's needs. Donations help us develop new programs such as Hospice of the Valleys Legacy Program, which records patient stories and history to memorialize them for loved ones. Hospice of the Valleys Complementary Care Program offers options in caring for mind, body, and spirit, such as massage, therapeutic touch, aroma, music, and pet therapy.
